MOTORCAR OPERATORS WEST
Eleventh Annual
PACIFIC NORTHWEST TOUR
2007
June 16 – July 3, 2007
(updated 12/19/2006)
Four states and a Canadian Province
Hello everyone - here (finally) are the plans for Motorcar Operators
West- Pacific Northwest Tour 2007. We hope you will join us once again.
This outline will appear on the MOW and NARCOA websites in the near future but meanwhile you are also welcome to share it with speeder-friends you hope to have join you on this run.
You'll note that our final railroad - the Modoc Northern - will be entertaining us for the first time. On a space available basis, it will be opened to those who can not attend the rest of the PNWT. Priority, as always, will be given to those who are registering for the complete tour.
Modoc Northern will not entertain children (under 18) or dogs. While we have had no children in recent years, we certainly have enjoyed the company of some well-behaved canine guests. We will be working to find a solution for our canine guests (and any children you are unable to disguise as a husband.)
Note that postmarks should be after Jan.10th.
Wishing you a healthy and happy holiday season and may your head be filled with visions of speeders on the rails of the Pacific Northwest.

Pacific Northwest Tour 2007

After last year’s marathon PNW Tour, this year will feel like a leisurely romp through four states in the Pacific Northwest with a quick pass (or maybe two) into Canada. Along the way we’ll travel on several sections of virgin rail (never before open to railcars) as well as revisiting some of our favorite PNW Tour railroads. Once again, we’ll cross state lines and an international border in our railcars. We’ll spend thirteen days on the rails and travel approximately 1200 miles. Our appreciation of the Pacific Northwest goes beyond the magical railroads over which we have traveled to the local communities and people that have given us such support. We will pause for our annual charity auction at Hooper, WA (last year we raised $5000 Canadian for 5 historical and rail related charities) and for the first time provide a day of service in this tiny rural community on the McGregor Ranch. Come to renew acquaintances, meet new participants, share your enthusiasm with first-timers and curious locals – or simply come to see some magnificent parts of the Pacific Northwest. Don’t miss MOW’s Pacific Northwest Tour 2007, and discover the magic that has spawned a motorcar tradition that continues for its eleventh consecutive year.
We rendezvous and set on the former Union Pacific track for two days on the Palouse River Railroad (PR&CC) using the McGregor ranch at Hooper, WA as our base of operations. We then travel through Lewiston, ID to our set-on, currently planned for North Lapwai. There we’ll take two days to enjoy the spectacular “railway on stilts” (2nd Sub) and the route to Kooskia along the Clearwater River, both now operated by Bountiful Grain & Craig Mountain Railroad (BG&CM.) From there we’ll head north to the small community of Kettle Falls, WA for our second visit to the (former BNSF) Kettle Falls International Railway (KFR.) Our travel through border country includes one crossing into Canada and delightful isolated runs along the Kettle and Columbia Rivers. KFR has offered us the opportunity to run southeast to Chewelah this year – another first for a railcar group. We continue westward to Okanagan, WA where, after an absence of three years, we look forward to renewing our friendship with General Manager, Buck Workman and three days of operation on the Cascade & Columbia River Railroad (CSCD.) We conclude our tour with more “new-to-railcars” rail as we set on near Klamath Falls, OR to operate on the Modoc Northern Railroad. (MNR) Our route will follow the Modoc Subdivision of Southern Pacific’s famed “Modoc Line” to Alturas, CA, then north on the former SP Lakeview Branch to Lakeview, OR. It’s not very often that motorcars have the opportunity to thunder across a diamond crossing with the busy BNSF. When we return to Klamath Falls you’ll have the option of heading home or visiting nearby Train Mountain – the largest hobby railroad (7.5” rail) in the world. www.trainmountain.com

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING
Accommodation:
- We will be away from our road vehicles for a total of 4 nights – bus transfer is provided as needed but you will need to arrange accommodation. An accommodation guide will be provided after registration. The * before a town’s name indicates a night we will be away from our road vehicles.
Seatbelts
- Strongly recommended. As they were last year, seatbelts may be required by one or more of our railroads. Winter is a good time to equip your car with seatbelts securely attached to the frame of your motorcar.
