In 2003 a few of us decided that despite the lack of the "big trip" to Shafter that maybe we could do some good and help the museum with some free labor while still allowing us to travel on the 30 or so miles that they have. We did a lot of work cleaning out sage brush and weeds in the rail yard and we cleaned up the siding of Lavon which is on the Hiline that used to go to upper McGill. On that trip we were given a wonderful tour of the facilities by Mark Bassett, the executive director of the museum. On that tour we were shown an old Kalamazoo speeder in the R.I.P. (repair in place) building and the decision was made to bring it back to California and rebuild what literally was a basket case. Over the next two years Glen Ford, Del McCall, and Mike Mitchell lovingly restored this speeder and in 2005 we brought her back home.
